The Mask of Sanity by Hervey M. Cleckly. This great book, first published in 1941, discusses sociopathy in considerable detail but is readable by a non-mental health professional. I found it extremely useful in researching Absence of Doubt. It makes useful reading when creating your baddies. It's in the public domain now, so you can click here to download.
